I am completely stoked about the announcement of a zero-packaging store that will be opening this fall in Austin, Texas. “in.gredients” most probably will be the first store in the U.S. to be package free and have zero waste in their store(s).
How can this be, you ask? Well, it’s because some forward-thinking entrepreneurs are setting their sights on being the “next step” in fixing a variety of problems in today’s food industry. They state that there mission is to be a different kind of grocery store, one that is responsible …

Often, I am unable to wrap my head around the blatant disregard and misuse of our natural resources. Many justify the actions because they say that the activity is providing for our nation’s economy and survival.
Recently, I have been involved in raising community awareness about the natural gas well drilling, known as hydro fracturing or “fracking” in my own Idaho community. In my opinion, common sense is being thrown to the wind, while big corporations try to buy their way into our backyards.
The same type of scenario is playing out …

There’s less than a week left until Valentine’s Day. It’s not too late to work on your Valentine list for the one you adore and do it with a “green” twist.
For the edible items, try finding products grown and/or made locally in your area. Between the packaging materials and then the emissions given off by shipping them, it can add up to a lot of waste and pollution. Also, finding a local eatery to dine out at, is an excellent idea. Even if you end up paying a little more …

The folks over at Rodale.com are going plastic-free for the month of February. I’m planning on following along, because this isn’t going to be an easy journey and I need all the encouragement that I can get.
Here’s what they’re saying over at Rodale.com:
Why go plastic free? There are plenty of reasons to cut down. It’s made from either petroleum or natural gas, two nonrenewable resources extracted in ways that pollute our air and water. Plastic manufacturers add chemicals to certain types of plastics that can be …

Would you believe me if I said that I could help your household budget and save you $3,400 on the products that you purchase regularly for your home? At first thought, you probably wouldn’t. You’d figure that there’s some kind of gimmick and that there’s some fine print to read somewhere.

Even though Winter “officially”  began last week, we all know that the “winter-like” conditions have been around for well over a month. And this week, many portions of the country are fighting some serious arctic blast, cold conditions.
There are some very easy and low, to no-cost, actions that anyone can do in defense from the cold, blistery weather penetrating their home. I’m going to share 5 easy ones here with you now:
1) Caulking and weather-stripping are huge factors in helping keep the cold out. The US Dept of Energy estimates …

My colleagues over at SoftwareAdvice.com have recently posted a very interesting article and poll on their website. It addresses the impact that printed receipts have on society’s paper consumption.
I have to be honest. I regularly use printed receipts for posting bank debit transactions to my check register and documenting purchases for tax purposes. And, for me personally, it would be a BIG sacrifice to go paperless! But, I truly feel it all boils down to learning a new behavior and knowing that the end result is worth it.
As stated in …

I was recently contacted by Houston Neal of SoftwareAdvice.com. He wanted to share with me, one of his heartfelt environmental concerns. This involves the production and printing of over 37 million, hard-copy blueprints, every year.
Until, I read Houston’s article on this subject, I didn’t have a clue regarding this topic. It excited me to think just how many more ways there are, to take positive steps, in reducing our carbon footprint.
It also saddened me a bit. This being, because it shows how much abundance this planet has had available to …

I’m going a new direction with my Christmas Card giving this year. This is a VERY hard change for me, because I LOVE to write up a Christmas letter with pictures and mail to EVERYONE! But, even using recycled products for this project, isn’t really helping my carbon footprint reduction
Therefore, I just signed up for a great online greeting card program that is done all via internet. The selection of virtual cards for Christmas, birthday’s, thank you, etc, is quite significant. Plus, they are animated and very unique. …
