Thursday, May 3rd will usher in the Opening Night at the Downtown Ontario Farmers Market. The Market takes place on SE 3rd Avenue, right in front of the Historic UPRR Train Depot in Downtown Ontario, Oregon.
The Ontario Farmers Market is an exciting, fun filled community gathering spot. Chock full of fresh local fruits,vegetables, bread, honey, berries, granola, cupcakes and more. The Market also includes a Guest Bell Ringer as a showcase for local Non-Profits, several tasty food vendors, artisans, live music and more to round out the weekly event.

I am completely stoked about the announcement of a zero-packaging store that will be opening this fall in Austin, Texas. “in.gredients” most probably will be the first store in the U.S. to be package free and have zero waste in their store(s).

I have been involved for several months with a local organization. It’s the Snake River Chapter of Oregon Rural Action. This grass roots group of passionate people are tirelessly working to raise awareness in our community about agricultural economic sustainability, social justice and more.
They are currently gearing up to get the Four Rivers Community Garden going again this year. The Garden helps provide fresh produce to the local food pantry and is a resource for educating local families about food options.

A bill has been introduced into Congress (HR 875), which will more stringently regulate farming practices. That’s all well and good, except the fact that HR 875 could essentially put the small farmer out of business and more specifically, organic farming!
Congressional Bill HR 875 was introduced by Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, whose husband Stanley Greenburg works for Monsanto. Ummmm, Monsanto, need I say more?
