Even those households that have curbside recycling offered to them, may discard some recyclable items into their regular household garbage can. Unfortunately, lack of convenience and knowledge, are often key factors to this oversight.
Modernization and chaotic lifestyles have seriously impacted the attitude of western civilization. We always want the most convenient and easiest way to complete any task. But, whatever is the most convenient isn’t always what’s best, when it comes to recycling.
The issue is the planet. You know, the one we live on, Earth? We only have one planet …

Program Recycles Flip Flops to Build Community Playgrounds
In an effort to further reduce waste, TerraCycle, Inc. and Old Navy are partnering in a month-long drive to collect used flip flops and recycle them into four public playgrounds around the country. The community is encouraged to participate by stopping by an Old Navy store to deposit used flip flops in designated collection bins. This is the first time a nationwide retailer has initiated a large-scale effort to collect and recycle flip flops. All Old Navy stores across the U.S. are participating …

‘Tis the season for gift giving and many of those gifts will include new cell phones and other small electronic devices. With that, comes the need to dispose of all the recently discarded cell phones, etc. There are several ways to get rid of your old cell phones and do it in an environmentally conscious way.
An excellent resource is your local domestic violence organization/shelter. Even though a cell phone’s provider service is discontinued, as long as the phone is in good working order and is charged up, it will still …

Just a few, short years ago, I would have regular “discussions” with my husband about the value of recycling. We wouldn’t actually fight about my attempts to recycle newspapers, plastic, aluminum, etc, but we were definitely not in agreement!
Pre-Apri 2007, I recycled aluminum cans & plastic bottles, pretty much for the cash (what little that was). I would also collect the previous day’s newspapers from my workplace and neighbor and recycle them, more for the principal of it, rather than the .01 or .02 cents per pound profit.
My very intelligent and witty …

This upcoming weekend will be the 234th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. What are you doing this year to celebrate?
Independence Day is traditionally celebrated on the 4th of July. Along with the fireworks, barbeque’s, parties and such, there’s usually A LOT of garbage that accumulates.
I can’t think of a better way to show how much you value the natural resources that this beautiful county provides, than by putting some “green acts” into the day of Red, White & Blue. Here’s some practical and easy tips:
Don’t use …

I don’t think it’s any secret that I have a passion for environmental stewardship. No act is too small to improve one’s carbon footprint on the planet. Therefore, I am pleased to announce a local Recycling Awareness Event that will be held in my Treasure Valley, Idaho community on November 21, 2009.
Motivated by the AmericaRecyclesDay.org coalition, this grassroots Recycling Awareness event will be held at Silverhawk Realty in Fruitland, Idaho from 10 am to 2 pm. The event will focus on recycling resources in the Payette County area. There will …

Celebrating its 12th year, America Recycles Day (ARD), will be on November 15th. It’s a day set aside to better inform people about the importance of recycling and buying recycled products.
I am a staunch supporter of recycling and do a decent job at it personally, but I know that I can do much more. So, I’ve taken the ARD Pledge on the America Recycles Day website to try and ramp up my recycling habits.
It’s a No Brainer, that recycling keeps the landfills from filling up so quickly. But, in addition …
